The Perfect First Kiss: Dos and Don'ts for Your Wedding Altar Moment
Your first kiss as a married couple is a cherished moment, especially with all your loved ones witnessing it. To make it absolutely perfect, I’ve compiled some essential tips to ensure your first kiss is a memorable success. From hand placement to duration, I’ve got you covered. Get ready to pucker up!
Do's
Practice, Practice, Practice! If you're comfortable with kissing before the wedding, use this time to practice as much as you like. Practice makes perfect! Consider hand placement, time duration, approach, and dismount – like a beautifully choreographed dance.
Get Close: Avoid awkward postures like hinging at the waist. Instead, get close to each other, finding a comfortable distance. If there's a significant height difference, meet each other halfway on your tiptoes to make it easier.
Do Something with Your Hands: Decide on a game-plan for hand placement. You can hold hands, embrace with hands on each other's waists, or go for a passionate 'face grab'. Choose what feels natural and comfortable for both of you.
Close Your Eyes: For more passionate and picture-perfect kisses, close your eyes during the moment. It adds an intimate touch and prevents awkward eye contact in photos.
Don’t hold back! Embrace the joy of marrying your soulmate and enjoy the moment. Don't be nervous; just lean in and share a loving kiss with your new spouse.
Don'ts
Approach Each Other Too Quickly: As exciting as it is to kiss your new hubby, take a moment to make eye contact, smile, and slowly approach each other. It adds intimacy and makes for better photographs.
Be Sloppy: Save the excessive tongue action for later; keep the first kiss sweet and elegant. Being overly enthusiastic might make guests uncomfortable and lead to awkward pictures.
Make it a Surprise: If you have any dramatic moves in mind, like a "dip" or being lifted, make sure both of you are aware of it. A surprise move could lead to unexpected outcomes.
Tilt Your Head TOO Much: Maintain a natural head tilt during the kiss without overdoing it. A slight tilt is usually sufficient, and it's fine for the bride to tilt her head to the right – though do what feels comfortable for both of you.
Make it Too Quick: Keep the first kiss short(ish) and sweet. I recommend around 5 seconds for the kiss. It's enough time to be intimate and capture quality photos without making your guests uneasy (awkward!).
As a wedding photographer, my goal is to capture every cherished moment, big or small. Your first kiss as a married couple is a moment you'll treasure forever. By following these do's and don'ts, you'll be sure to have a picture-perfect and heartfelt kiss at the altar!
